Meet Woollen Wytch’s BFL yarn base, hand dyed and made with comfort, strength, and warmth in mind. Spun from 100% British Blue Faced Leicester wool, this double knit yarn is soft, airy, and a real pleasure to work with.
BFL has a lovely balance to it—fine enough to feel comfortable against the skin, but durable enough to stand up to everyday wear. It makes beautifully cosy socks that hug your feet, as well as long-lasting sweaters, mittens, hats, and garments with a gentle, natural drape.
Often compared to merino for softness, Blue Faced Leicester has the bonus of being stronger and more hard-wearing, meaning it’s less likely to pill or break over time. It’s one of my favourite British wools to dye and knit with, and I think it’s a joy from skein to finished project.
100% British Yarn
This yarn is fully British—from fleece to skein. The wool is sourced, produced, and spun here in the UK, then hand dyed by me in Bristol. Many yarns labelled as “British wool” are actually sent overseas to be spun, adding unnecessary miles and unknown labour practices along the way. Keeping everything closer to home matters to me, and I’m proud to offer yarns that truly support British wool and makers.
