Cosy up with our playful Botanical Apothecary! This hand-dyed fingering yarn has all the colours you need to create something special - orange, purple, and red with a hint of the grey tones from the Shetland wool.

Three of our finest and most luxurious raised breeds come together to make this incredibly soft, strong and versatile yarn. Blue faced Leicester and UK Alpaca wool is soft, smooth, springy and by contrast Shetland is slightly woollier and warmer. The resulting yarn is a lofty fingering weight that knits up beautifully. Ideal for socks, garments or anything that requires some extra strength!

Naturally grey in colour from the Shetland and Grey UK Alpaca fleeces, which are then over dyed using vibrant colours adding depths and dimension to the yarn.

This blend is a fantastic introductory to working your way into the wide range of rustic British yarns available. Blending with the softness of Alpaca and Blue faced Leicester with the crispy rustic feel of Shetland creates a fantastic yarn that can be worn against the skin with minimum itchiness.

100% British Yarn

Unlike most yarns suppliers, I have worked hard to ensure my BFL yarn is 100% British- both produced, sourced, and spun in the UK. Most popular Indie yarn dyer wholesalers in the UK send their British wool overseas, across the globe to be spun- adding a huge carbon footprint, and adding the unknown ethical and socio-economic implications of cheap labour costs of developing and middle-income countries.

Woollen Wytch is proud to hand dyed 100% British yarns and fibre.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Why do you use British wool instead of stocking merino?

At Woollen Wytch, we’re proud to support British farmers by using 100% British-grown wool.

This not only reduces the carbon footprint of our yarn but also celebrates the incredible variety and quality of wool produced right here in the UK.

While merino is popular, it’s often sourced from South America or Australia, which comes with significant environmental costs.

By choosing British wool, we’re championing sustainability, local agriculture, and heritage breeds. 🌍🐑

How is hand-dyed yarn packaged for shipping?

At Woollen Wytch, we prioritize sustainability in our packaging.

Your hand-dyed yarn is carefully wrapped to protect it during transit, using eco-friendly materials like recyclable paper and compostable mailers.

We avoid using plastic whenever possible, so your yarn arrives beautifully presented and planet-friendly! 🌍✨

Why does my skein of hand-dyed yarn look different from the photos online?

Each skein of hand-dyed yarn is a unique work of art, dyed in small batches that can result in slight variations.

Lighting and screen settings may also affect how colours appear.

These subtle differences are part of the charm and individuality of hand dyed yarns.

Will the colours in hand-dyed yarn bleed or fade?

Hand-dyed yarns are carefully dyed using professional-grade acid dyes and set with citric acid to lock in the colours.

While minimal bleeding can sometimes occur during the first wash, proper care—such as washing in cool water with a gentle detergent—will keep your yarn vibrant for years to come.
