Meet Woollen Wytch’s new sock yarn base, hand dyed and thoughtfully blended with BFL, bio-nylon, and alpaca for a balance of softness, strength, and warmth.
This luxurious sock yarn is made using hand-dyed British fibres, combining Blue Faced Leicester wool with UK alpaca. The result is a soft, airy yarn that knits up into cosy socks that gently hug your feet and feel comfortable all day long.
Blue Faced Leicester is fine enough to wear next to the skin, yet tough enough for everyday use, which is why it’s one of my favourite British wools to work with. It’s just as lovely for socks as it is for hard-wearing sweaters, mittens, hats, and garments with a soft, natural drape.
Often compared to merino for softness, BFL has the added benefit of being stronger and more durable, making it less prone to breaking or pilling. With the addition of bio-nylon for strength and alpaca for extra warmth and softness, this becomes a premium sock yarn that’s made to last.
100% British Yarn
This yarn is proudly British, from fleece to finished skein. The wool is sourced, produced, and spun in the UK, then hand dyed by me in Bristol. Many yarns labelled as British are sent overseas to be spun, adding unnecessary miles and raising questions around labour practices. Keeping this process close to home is important to me, and it’s something Woollen Wytch is proud to stand behind.
